Humidity levels can easily fluctuate but in an effort to maintain comfortable humidity levels, there are several things that can be done to achieve the optimal humidity level:
When levels are too low
Using a humidifier will increase humidity levels because through the use of a filter, the water dispensed into the humidifier will be absorbed. It will then be blown throughout the room’s air by a fan located inside the device.
When levels are too high
Contrary to humidifiers, dehumidifiers will lower the amount of humidity in a room. A dehumidifier contains both hot and cold coils and a fan that first blows over the cold coil (condensing the moisture within the air that drips down to be collected) and then blows over a hot coil (in order to restore the air to its original temperature). The water left inside the dehumidifier should be emptied regularly.
Humidity is subject to fluctuation and levels that are too high or too low can easily be altered. Though, if a problem goes unnoticed or ignored mold can result. Once mold is detected, it is key that the source of elevated moisture is lowered, or removed and that mold be cleaned up within 24 hours. After washing away mold using water and detergent it is vital that the area is dried completely to ensure that mold will not instantaneously grow back.
